Legal
Terms & Conditions
The house rules for this website, our tables and the eight rooms upstairs — written to be read, not skimmed.
These terms cover two things: using this website, and buying something from us — a coffee, a table, a gift card or a night in one of the rooms. The short version is that we hold tables for 15 minutes, room cancellations are free up to 48 hours before arrival, check-in is from 15:00 and checkout is 11:00, prices include VAT, and nothing here takes away the rights you have under UK consumer law.
1. Who we are
This website is operated by Connection Cafe Ltd, trading as ConnectionCafe.com, a company registered in England and Wales with its trading address at 42 Kiln Street, Shoreditch, London E1 6QL, United Kingdom. In these terms, we, us and our mean Connection Cafe Ltd; you means the person using this site or buying from us. Contact us at hello@connectionscafes.com, on +44 20 7946 0958, or through our contact page.
2. Accepting these terms
By browsing ConnectionCafe.com, sending us an enquiry, booking a table or reserving a room, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. We may update them — for example when we change a cancellation window or add a service — and the date at the top always shows the current version. The terms that apply to a booking are the ones published when you made it; a later change does not alter a booking you have already confirmed.
3. Using the website
We do our best to keep the site available, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it without notice — for maintenance, or simply because we have rewritten a page.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the site for anything unlawful, fraudulent or harmful;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its server or any connected system;
- introduce malware, or attack the site by denial-of-service or any similar means;
- scrape, harvest or systematically copy our content, images or menu data for republication or for training a commercial dataset, without our written permission;
- submit false, abusive or defamatory content through the enquiry form, or use it to send unsolicited marketing.
We may block access where these rules are broken, and we will report serious breaches to the police.
4. Intellectual property
The written content, menu descriptions, brewing notes, page design and commissioned photography on this site are owned by us or licensed to us. Photography sourced from third-party libraries remains the property of its photographers and is used here under licence. You may view, print and share pages for your own non-commercial use, and quote a short extract if you credit ConnectionCafe.com and link back to the page. You may not republish our copy or photographs, present them as your own, or use them in advertising without written permission — ask us, we are usually happy to say yes for genuine editorial coverage. ConnectionCafe.com and Kiln Street No. 4 are our trading names.
5. Menus, prices and availability
We publish the full menu and our current coffees online and keep them as accurate as we can, but a cafe changes daily. Single origins rotate every fortnight, produce is seasonal, pastries run out, and prices move when our costs do. Information on this site is an invitation to treat, not a binding offer: the price and availability that apply are the ones at the counter or in your booking confirmation at the time you order. Photographs are illustrative and serving suggestions; the plate in front of you may differ. We may change the menu, our opening hours and our prices without notice, though we will always honour a price already confirmed in writing for a booking.
6. Table bookings
Most of our 62 seats are kept for walk-ins — that is the point of the place. We take bookings for groups and for busier periods through the enquiry form or by phone.
- We hold a booked table for 15 minutes. After that we may release it, though we will always try to seat you elsewhere if we can.
- Groups of six or more: please give us at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reduce numbers. Repeated no-shows for large tables may mean we ask for a card guarantee before accepting the next booking; we do not otherwise charge a no-show fee.
- We do not put a time limit on tables. If you need three hours and a corner, take them — but please tell us in advance if a large group plans to stay a long time, so we can plan the room.
- Bookings are for the party size given. If more people arrive than we were told about, we may not be able to seat everyone together.
7. Room bookings and cancellations
The eight rooms above the cafe are booked through the stay pages, by email to stay@connectionscafes.com, or by phone. A booking is confirmed only when we send you a written confirmation. The lead guest must be 18 or over and is responsible for the whole party.
Rates and what they include
Rates are per room per night, include VAT, and include everything set out under what is included — breakfast at the bar, a 250g bag of house roast, a hand grinder and brewer in the room, 24-hour street-door access by key code, and 500 Mbps Wi-Fi. We take a card to guarantee the booking; the balance is payable on arrival unless we have agreed otherwise.
Cancellation
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before your arrival date. Cancel in writing to stay@connectionscafes.com and nothing is charged.
- Inside 48 hours, or if you do not arrive, we charge one night at the booked rate. The rest of the stay is released.
- Shortening a stay after check-in: we charge for the night you depart plus one further night.
- If we ever have to cancel — a burst pipe, a failed boiler — we will refund everything you have paid in full and help you find a comparable room nearby. That is the limit of our liability for a cancellation of this kind.
Because accommodation for a specific date is exempt under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, the 14-day cooling-off period does not apply to room bookings. The cancellation window above is what you have instead.
Arrival, departure and the house
- Check-in from 15:00; checkout by 11:00. The Loft Suite has late checkout until 13:00 included. Earlier check-in or later departure elsewhere is subject to availability and may carry a charge.
- Reception is staffed 24 hours for guests, and the street door works on a key code so you are never locked out.
- Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 07:00. The building is old and the floors are timber — please be considerate. We may ask a party disturbing other guests to leave, without a refund.
- The whole building is non-smoking, including vaping and including the rooms and windows. Smoking in a room means a £150 deep-clean charge, because the room cannot be re-let until it has been aired and the linen replaced.
- No pets in the rooms. Assistance dogs are always welcome, in the rooms and in the cafe — just tell us when you book so we can have water and a mat ready.
- Damage. You are responsible for the room and its contents during your stay. We charge for repair or replacement at cost, and we will send you photographs and an invoice rather than a round number. Fair wear and tear is on us.
- Maximum occupancy is two guests in The Kiln Double and The Roastery Room, and three in The Loft Suite. Please do not exceed it — it is a fire safety limit, not a preference.
8. Gift cards
Gift cards are sold in fixed amounts, are valid for 24 months from the date of issue, and can be spent on anything we sell — drinks, food, retail coffee and room nights. They are not exchangeable for cash, we cannot give change in cash on a partly used card, and the remaining balance stays on the card. Treat one like cash: if you lose it, we cannot replace it unless you can give us the card number from your receipt. Unused balances expire at the end of the 24 months.
9. Payment and VAT
We accept card payments and contactless. Every price we publish includes VAT at the current rate, and a VAT receipt is available on request. Card payments are processed by our payment provider — we never see or hold your full card number, as explained in our privacy policy. We do not add a service charge to bills. If you want to tip, the card terminal will ask, and tips are shared in full among the team on shift.
10. Allergens, dietary information and food safety
We give allergen information in good faith and our team will always talk you through a dish. But this is a small kitchen: we handle wheat flour, dairy, nuts and sesame every day, in one prep space, so we cannot guarantee any dish is free from traces of an allergen and we cannot describe anything as coeliac-safe. Roughly half the kitchen menu is vegetarian and vegan options are marked. Oat milk is stocked as standard at no extra charge.
If you have a serious allergy, please speak to the person serving you before you order rather than relying on the website, and tell us when you book a room so that breakfast can be planned. Our disclaimer explains the limits of the information published online. General guidance on allergens is available from the Food Standards Agency.
11. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for a breach of your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
Subject to that:
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable.
- We are not liable for business losses — we supply our services for domestic and private use, and if you use them for any commercial purpose we have no liability for loss of profit, business, contracts or opportunity.
- Our liability for a room booking is limited to the total amount paid for that booking, except where the law provides otherwise. The Hotel Proprietors Act 1956 may limit our liability for guests' property in any event; please use the room safe and tell reception about anything valuable.
- We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as utility failure, extreme weather, transport disruption or the acts of a public authority. If one occurs we will contact you as soon as we can and, for a room booking, refund what you have paid for nights you cannot take.
- Personal property brought into the cafe is left at your own risk. Lost property is kept for 28 days, then donated or disposed of.
12. Links to other websites
We link to other sites where they are genuinely useful — transport operators, trade bodies, our suppliers. Those sites are not under our control. A link is not an endorsement of the organisation or its content, and we are not responsible for anything you find there or for their privacy and cookie practices. Read their terms before you use them. You are welcome to link to ConnectionCafe.com from your own site, provided you do so fairly, do not suggest an association we do not have, and do not frame our pages inside yours.
13. If something goes wrong
Please tell us while you are still here if you can — a cold plate or a room problem is much easier to put right on the day than a fortnight later. If that is not possible, email hello@connectionscafes.com with the date, the time and what happened. We acknowledge complaints within three working days and aim to resolve them within fourteen. If you are still unhappy, you keep every right you have under consumer law, including the right to take the matter to the small claims court.
14. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. If we do not insist on something immediately, that does not stop us doing so later. We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation if the business changes hands, and we will tell you if that happens. A person who is not a party to these terms has no right to enforce them.
15. Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your own courts.
